SPACETIME COMPOSING is a series of sculptures, images, and musical compositions that are combined by space-time transformations. The starting point is a computational algorithm that translates sound and music bidirectional into spatial forms using physical equations.
In "Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major (BWV 1007)," a composition by Johann Sebastian Bach is transformed into graphical line images. In "Capriccio in B Major," a note sheets becomes the construction plan of a sculpture. Conversely, in "Sonification of a Möbius Ribbon," the spatial structure of a geometric object is translated into a polyphonic musical sequence and further developed in the piano piece "Möbius Ribbon Variation". In "Impromptu" the visual shape of a spatially designed sculpture is translated into a polyphonic melody. In the installation "Pianoliner" a line image is drawed by playing a piano.
The works explore the interplay between spatial and temporal structures in art and music. Through the physics-based transformation process, works are created in which sound and form are intrinsically interwoven, making interdisciplinary compositional principles audiovisually perceptible.
